Harry Kane says the Tottenham players discussed making a quick start against Manchester United before the game.
That dressing room talk clearly worked as Spurs took the lead after just 10 seconds at Wembley through Christian Eriksen.
The hosts went onto to win 2-0 thanks to Phil Jones’ comical own goal. After the match, Kane was full of praise for the team’s display. (Quotes via Yahoo! Sport.)
“Throughout the game, they never really looked like threatening us. The defence was great – Jan [Vertonghen] and Davinson [Sanchez] – and the whole team just played well,” said Kane.
“It could have been more. You don’t normally get that many opportunities against United. They’re normally solid at the back and you have to break them down.
“But obviously getting that goal so quickly opened up the game for us and the only downside was that we didn’t score more.
He added: “Sometimes we say before the game ‘let’s go for this today [from the kick-off]’ and it worked out well. It was important.
“It set us off for getting runners in behind, trusting that we’re going to win the first ball and then the second ball. That’s how we played throughout the whole pitch and it worked well for us.”
Harry what do you mean sometimes you say “go for it” before the game ???
Haha what an absolute class player you are,we are so lucky to have you
COYS…..
Isnt that the mentality you should have every game?
There’s a difference between trying to win the game and going for it. We’ve had a lot of draws recently (Southampton, Newport etc) in games we should win, the issue has been they’ve not gambled on themselves winning the 1st and 2nd balls (as Harry said) and having players in advanced positions to break teams down for when they do win those balls.
Too much build up play not direct enough, can’t wait to see how they use Lucas’s pace and directness to full effect 😀
