Serge Aurier says he helped persuade his former PSG teammate Lucas Moura to join Tottenham instead of other potential destinations.

Moura joined Spurs in a £25 million deal on deadline day, but Aurier claims the Brazilian could have signed for another club. (Quotes via ESPN.)

“I’m happy. I’m really happy to have him here,” said Aurier. “I spoke a lot to him before his arrival and I reassured him. I think he made the right decision. He had other opportunities, but I think it’s the best choice for him and for his career.”

So who were those clubs? Well, Arsenal were certainly interested earlier in the window – it could have been them. Napoli, Valencia and Real Betis were also said to be fond of him.

Aurier added: “I told him it’s an ambitious club, a beautiful club with a really good team. I think he was looking for somewhere where he could have fun again and he has come to the right team.

“It’s a spirited group here, which is not afraid of welcoming new players and in that regard I know what I’m talking about. So he simply made the right choice and now I just hope he’s going to adapt as quickly as possible.”

  1. No big club wanted Moura.
He’s been touted for 18 months with zero takers hence why PSG decided to flog him cheap.
A very good player on his day but painfully inconsistent and will often be referred to as a ‘headless chicken’ as he runs down blind alleys (fast).
Sadly, will never cut it in the Prem and predictably the Chinese League awaits within 2 years.

  2. It would be so nice for someone to debut and score twice for a change. Those days have gone at Spurs. Hope he,s Zaha on the cheap who was the tailored made solution
It is good to see Spurs buying a quality player per window i.e. Sanchez.
Liverpool and City have shown the future of attack is at great speed and the game has moved on.
Son,s equal on the other wing Moura would add great speed. Its all about goals for me. Chadli was knocking in 10. Lamela the same

    • I think spurs have bought a good player for a change he’ll hit the ground running. How do I know? Because the law of averages tells me even spurs can’t buy another dissapiontment. Anyway Neymars reaction was interesting. Moura is a good buy,not a goodbye.

  3. ‘5m for who? Nah don’t think he’ll cut it in the prem yet. I suppose he’ll be good in a few years, let’s wait and see’ Said a lot of spurs fans three years ago about Dele… Just give the bloke a chance will ya

  4. Looking forward to seeing another quality player pull on the shirt. Another attacking option is just what we needed and the squad is looking stronger and stronger.
