Tottenham are interested in signing Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sean Clare, according to reports.

Clare made his first start in the Championship earlier this month. He has scored one goal for the Yorkshire club.

The 21-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, but Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay has hinted a new deal is on the table.

Clare rose up through ranks at Charlton Athletic before joining Wednesday. He has spent time at Bury, Accrington and Gillingham on loan.

According to TEAMtalk, a number of clubs are tracking the midfielder including Tottenham, Everton, Southampton and Leicester.

Spurs are perhaps the most attractive prospect from that list, but Clare may decide to join a team where he is more likely to get first-team football.

Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele. Clare has played in a number of positions for various clubs, but he is primarily a central midfielder, so he fits the bill.

It will be interesting to see if any major outlets pick up on the story in the next few weeks.
