Tottenham are still interested in signing Napoli midfielder Amadou Diawara, according to reports in Italy.
Earlier this year, Italian reports emerged claiming Spurs had lodged a £33 million bid for Diawara.
Further reports refuted that claim, contending Tottenham see the 20-year-old as an “ideal investment” and talks had taken place between the clubs, but no offer had been made.
Now, Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport suggests Spurs are still in contact with Napoli over Diawara and remain interested in signing him this summer.
Napoli are apparently eager to sign Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira at the end of the season, but to do that Corriere believes they must free up funds – selling Diawara would do just that.
The Guinea international has scored one goal provided one assist in 24 appearances across all competitions. Indeed, he has struggled to displace the likes of Marek Hamsik, Jorginho and Allan in Napoli’s midfield.
Still, Diawara is considered one of the most talented young players in Serie A and fits the criteria as a potential long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele.
“…considered an ideal replacement…” by whom? One goal and one assist in 24 appearances doesn’t exactly scream quality. This looks like an agent trying for a payday.
