Tottenham are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes this summer, according to reports in Portugal.
The 23-year-old has scored 13 goals and provided 16 assists in all comeptitions this season and is among the most highly-rated players in the Primeira Liga.
A full Portugal international since last year, Fernandes joined Sporting from Serie A side Sampdoria last summer.
A number of fine performances during his debut season at Sporting have attracted interest from across Europe.
And according to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Spurs are chief among Fernandes’ suitors.
Signing him might not be so easy, though. Fernandes has four years remaining on his current contract, which includes a €100 million release clause.
Tottenham are believed to be in the market for a long-term Mousa Dembele replacement, but Fernandes doesn’t really fit the criteria to fill that role.
Instead he would be more of a deputy to Christian Eriksen, a position Spurs may also be prioritising this summer.
Fernandes is set to feature for Portugal at the World Cup – it will be interesting to see how he fares on the biggest stage.
