Tottenham could move for Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand this summer, according to the Sun.
Bertrand is apparently determined to leave Southampton at the end of the season regardless of whether they are relegated to the Championship.
The Saints are currently third from bottom in the Premier League, three points behind 17th-placed Crystal Palace with a game in hand.
The Sun believes Manchester United are still interested in signing Danny Rose from Spurs – if that happens, Tottenham could identify £25m-rated Bertrand as a potential replacement.
However, the Sun‘s report also claims United might move for Bertrand if they are unable to lure Rose from Spurs.
There’s a chance wantaway United left-back Luke Shaw may also be involved in something of a left-back merry-go-round.
Rose has found it difficult to reclaim his place in Tottenham’s first eleven over recent months since returning from a long-term injury.
His controversial comments about Spurs’ ambition in the transfer market may have also played a part in his lack of game time.
It wouldn’t be hugely surprising to see Rose leave Tottenham this summer, but his recent form won’t have attracted many suitors.
If Spurs are to replace him, the fans will probably be expecting a player of a higher standard than Bertrand to challenge Ben Davies for the left-back slot.
Where do you get this shite? Bertrand? We’d clearly go for Shaw over him, however, sessegnon seems like the obvious and perfect fit. You’re clearly just making stuff up and have no idea about spurs recruitment policy
Shaw? Youre having a laugh I assume. Bertrand is way better than Shaw, but I would much rather have Sessegnon.
yep ATM I’d take bertrand any day
Can we stop this Sessegnon rubbish please. He’s a 17 year old with potential, nothing more. He’s 2-3 years away from even challenging for a start in a Spurs first eleven. We have seasoned internationals who cannot even make the bench so what makes folk think he’s the answer to our left back slot immediately? And he’ll turn out to be a left winger anyway.
Bertrand is ok. Would take him over an unfit Rose and a too-slow Davies even though he’s improved steadily over the years. Would prefer the guy from PSG though – and they like selling to us.
