Tottenham sent scouts to watch Ricardo Pereira in action for Porto last weekend, according to reports in Portugal.

Pereira was strongly linked with Spurs last summer when the club was chasing a replacement for Kyle Walker.

The 24-year-old spent the last two seasons on loan at Ligue 1 side Nice, but he returned to Porto in the summer and has made 21 league appearances this term.

Tottenham instead preferred Serge Aurier last summer, who arrived from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee in the region of £25 million.

But Portuguese outlet O Jogo (spotted by tothelaneandback.co.uk) claims Spurs still hold an interest in Pereira.

In fact, scouts were sent to watch the defender in action against Benfica last weekend.

Another reported Tottenham target, Benfica’s Andrija Zivkovic, was also said to be watched by a number of English clubs.

With Aurier and Kieran Trippier currently fighting for the right-back slot, Spurs arguably don’t need a new player in that position.

However, Pereira can also play at left-back and on the wing, so Danny Rose’s potential exit could be a factor in Tottenham’s interest.
