Tottenham will only let Danny Rose join Manchester United if they receive £40 million plus Luke Shaw in exchange, according to the Sun.

Reports earlier this week suggested United are set to step up their pursuit of Rose, who has been targeted by Jose Mourinho since last season.

Rose has endured a arduous campaign at Spurs having struggled to regain fitness and form following a 10-month lay-off with a knee injury.

Back in August, the 27-year-old gave an interview in which he criticised Tottenham’s ambition in the transfer market and hinted he would be open to leaving the club – United were heavily linked at the time.

A combination of his injury and those controversial comments has seen Ben Davies emerge as Mauricio Pochettino’s preferred left-back, and Rose is expected to leave Tottenham this summer.

Now, the Sun claims Spurs want £40 million and for United to allow Luke Shaw to move in the opposite direction.

Shaw enjoyed the best spell of his career under Pochettino’s management at Southampton, and a potential reunion has been touted for some time despite the 22-year-old’s underwhelming performances for United.

Working for Pochettino again could reignite Shaw’s career, but the Sun’s report is speculative at best. There’s some logic to a Rose-Shaw swap, but it smacks of guesswork for now.
