Mauricio Pochettino says Kieran Trippier is one of the best English players in the Premier League after the defender’s impressive performance against Watford on Monday night.
Trippier provided an assist for Harry Kane after Dele Alli had put Spurs ahead at Wembley – the hosts held on to seal a vital 2-0 victory in the battle for Champions League qualification.
Pochettino has generally preferred Trippier over summer signing Serge Aurier at right-back this season, and the Tottenham boss believes the 27-year-old has developed into one of the country’s best players this term.
“I think our full-backs have been fantastic this season,” Pochettino told the Standard after Monday’s game.
“If you see the stats of Kieran Trippier and Ben Davies or when we play with Danny Rose and Serge Aurier, I think we have great quality there.
“For me, Kieran is one of the best English players in the Premier League and he deserves a lot of credit. Assists, playing passes, crosses he is one of the best.”
Spurs were far from their best against Watford, but two Trippier deliveries ultimately led to the goals that ensured victory.
Hugo Lloris was also in top form, keeping out first half efforts from Andre Grey and Richarlison to keep Spurs ahead.
The Frenchman has made a string of high-profile errors in recent weeks, but Pochettino believes the Tottenham skipper remains one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Spurs face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday in their last away game of the Premier League season.
But his defense against top clubs and big attackers is quite poor.
Still like Danny Rose to stay and just get on with playing football with our great squad
