Tottenham are interested in signing Colombian midfielder Wilmar Barrios, according to the Sun.
Barrios currently plays for Boca Juniors in Argentina and is the international teammate of Spurs defender Davinson Sanchez.
Mauricio Pochettino is said to be an admirer of the 24-year-old, who could move for a fee in the region of £25 million.
The Tottenham manager apparently plans to watch Barrios in action for Colombia during this summer’s World Cup finals in Russia.
The Sun claims Pochettino wants a new midfield enforcer to protect his back four, which perhaps suggests Victor Wanyama’s future is in doubt.
Wanyama has been far from his best this season having spent a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.
Reports have hinted Spurs could listen to offers for the 26-year-old, but there is every chance he will stay in north London.
The same can’t be said for Mousa Dembele, who is expected to leave Tottenham this summer.
Barrios could work as a replacement for Dembele, although Pochettino might prefer a midfielder who can roam forward more freely with fewer defensive responsibilities.
