Manchester United are not keen on the idea of selling Tottenham target Anthony Martial to a Premier League rival, according to the Mirror.

Earlier this week, reports claimed Martial is a top transfer target for Spurs as Mauricio Pochettino aims to freshen up his squad ahead of the new season.

The Tottenham boss apparently wants to sign an attacker who can provide cover and competition for Harry Kane.

Meanwhile, United are interested in signing Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld, who is expected to leave the Londoners after failing to agree terms on a new contract.

A possible swap deal involving Martial had been mooted, but the Mirror believes United do not want to sell the Frenchman to a Premier League rival.

Instead, they would rather Martial move abroad – Juventus and Naploli are both thought to be keen on the 22-year-old.

Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen are set to leave Tottenham this summer, and Pochettino will want to avoid previous mistakes by signing a top-quality forward to help Kane.

Martial certainly fits the bill, but it looks like it will be difficult for Spurs to convince United to sell him.

  1. If they dont want to sell to us then why would we even spend 5 seconds discussing Toby with them, shut the door in their face and move on. There is no way Levy will put up with this, he is no mug. It has to be part of any deal for Toby. If you want him we are having Martial and £20 million. Thats the way it has to work or we sell him to someone else.

    • United is bigger team, so Spur must respect United.Moreso, you can not compare Matial with you Player, how on earth you get matial +20million? for your Toby? Pls be reasonable….

      • James must be mad ….either a swap or sell Toby overseas …they could even end up teammates at Juventus or Bayern

        • Martial is 22 and still have more than 10 years to play competitive football. Toby is 29, injury-prone and has been displaced in the team by Sanchez. Keep your plastic player, we will get him less 25m next season…

  2. I agree with Dave. The days of us letting Utd raid our larder and leave with the likes of Carrick and Berbatov are over. If they won’t deal on Martial, we shouldn’t deal on Toby

  3. Martial is over rated I don’t want him at our club if he’s not good enough for them he’s not good enough for us.

  4. Comment don’t u read the lips, comparing martial to Toby swap, martial fees will be around 70+,if man u is ready to sell him at all, your Toby does not worth 40m.more so he is out of contract, he will leave with free transfer. We have the likes of utilities, Verane, formal man u man at Westbrom. Keep your Toby and run out of cash.

  5. It’s the ol’ Manure luvvie media bias again. Shaft everybody else in favour of the press that Manure ply with “hospitality”.
What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
Toby is the finished article and martial is not!
