Tottenham are interested in signing Gelson Martins this summer, and the Sporting Lisbon winger could be available for free according to the Times.

Martins has been linked with a move to Spurs in the past, but his current situation makes an exit from Sporting in the current transfer window all the more probable.

A number of Sporting players are attempting to rescind their contracts after being subjected to an attack by a group of fans at the club’s training ground towards the end of the season.

Rui Patricio, William Carvalho, Bruno Fernandes and Martins are all expected to terminate their contracts in a bid to leave the Portuguese club this summer.

And according to the Times, Tottenham are keen to take advantage by signing Martins for nothing, although they will face competition from Arsenal and Benfica.

The 23-year-old scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists in 2017/18 as Sporting narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification.

An attacker is said the be on Mauricio Pochettino’s list of targets, and Martins could be an alternative to the likes of Anthony Martial and Wilfried Zaha if deals for those players can’t be done.
