Boca Juniors midfielder Wilmar Barrios has voiced his admiration of the Premier League, recognising Tottenham’s reported interest in him for the first time.
Barrios was linked with Spurs before the World Cup, but rumours of the Londoners’ interest have intensified after the 24-year-old played a starring role in Colombia’s run to their Round of 16 clash with England.
If you didn’t know, Barrios was the one who appeared to headbutt Jordan Henderson.
There have been a number of contrasting reports so far; some have claimed Barrios is all set to join Tottenham while others suggest talks haven’t taken place between Spurs and Boca.
Now, Barrios himself has spoken out amid the rumours.
He told South American outlet Ole (via Sport Witness): “I like the Premier League, it’s a top league in the world, but I only think about Boca.
“I have been told that the Tottenham fans want me to go, but I do not know English yet, ha.”
Barrios’ comments don’t really make anything clearer – he is obviously open to a move, but whether Tottenham are genuinely interested in signing him remains to be seen.
Spurs are likely to be in need of a new central midfielder this summer with Mousa Dembele expected to leave the club – he has just one year left on his contract and has been heavily linked with Inter Milan.
just sign him now
I’m a Spurs fan and I don’t want him. He’s a poor man’s Wanyama with no real abilities to control a game from midfield. Would suit a bottom six side; we need a much better player than this.
a hatchet man how many games would he complete ? THUG
