Tottenham starlet Marcus Edwards is attracting interest from Bayer Leverkusen but the Londoners are reluctant to sell, according to ESPN.
Edwards was once considered the next youth player most likely to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team plans, but a turbulent two years have seen his chances at Spurs take a turn for the worse.
The 18-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship club Norwich City but failed to make a single appearance amid reports he was often late for training and team meetings.
Subsequently, he is expected to leave Tottenham this summer with Pochettino having lost patience.
However, ESPN believes Spurs are reluctant to let Edwards leave. He is apparently wanted by German side Bayer Leverkusen, who are willing to offer a “quicker pathway to first-team football.”
The report claims Tottenham don’t want Edwards to leave despite previous suggestions his career with the club is over.
A number of young English players have left for Germany in recent months, including Keanan Bennetts, who left Spurs for Borussia Monchengladbach earlier in the summer.
Whether Edwards truly has a future with Tottenham remains to be seen.
