Toby Aldweireld is hopeful Tottenham and Manchester United can come to an agreement over a transfer by Thursday’s deadline, according to reports in Belgium.

The centre-back has been expected to leave Spurs all summer after failing to agree terms on a new contract earlier this year.

After falling out favour with Mauricio Pochettino towards the end of last season, an exit has seemed inevitable throughout the current transfer window.

There have been no developments concerning a potential move to Manchester United, which has been mooted for the last few weeks.

However, Belgian newspaper HLN (via Sport Witness) claims Alderweireld is still hopeful a deal can be done.

The report reveals the 29-year-old “absolutely wants to leave” Tottenham before the Premier League’s transfer window closes at 5pm on Thursday.

United remain the only team Alderweireld is being heavily linked with, although Jose Mourinho is said to be targeting alternatives just in case.

Meanwhile, Alderweireld’s Belgium teammate Mousa Dembele has reportedly turned down a £20 million move to Inter Milan.

Perhaps both players will end up staying at Spurs after all.
