Bayern Munich are the latest club interested in signing Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, according to the Mirror.
The Bundesliga giants are believed to be keen on Alderweireld as a potential replacement for Jerome Boateng, who is a target for Paris-Saint Germain.
Boateng was tipped to join Manchester United earlier this month but a deal failed to materialise.
However, PSG could offer the centre-back a route out of Bayern, meaning the German champions will be targeting a replacement before the European transfer window closes on August 31st.
And the Mirror believes Alderweireld is on Bayern’s shortlist if Boateng is allowed to leave.
Alderweireld had been expected to leave Spurs for Manchester United before the Premier League’s August 9th deadline but the clubs couldn’t come to an agreement.
The 29-year-old failed to agree terms on a new contract with Tottenham earlier this year, and the Londoners have reportedly been listening to offers – although it appears no club has met their valuation.
Alderweireld was among the substitutes for Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle United. It remains to be seen whether he will play more of a prominent role later in the season if he sticks around for the entire campaign.
i’m hoping that Toby will sign an enhanced contract with Spurs for 3 years and stay with us. One can’t blame him for holding out to see if Man U would keep their promise to him – but – they didn’t – they really let him down and hung him out to dry. Typical Woodward. Time to accept that the offer Spurs made is pretty darn good and worth signing on for 3 years.
AMEN to that
