Tottenham are interested in signing Fiorentina striker Giovanni Simeone, according to reports in Italy.

Giovanni is the son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, and Italian outlet Tuttosport (via Sky Sports’s Transfer Centre, August 31st, 08:52) claims the La Liga giants are also keen on the 23-year-old.

Fiorentina apparently value Simeone at around €40 million (£35.8m) as he has four years remaining on his current contract.

The Argentinian scored 14 goals in Serie A last season and is higly rated in Italy after a number of impressive performances for Fiorentina.

Spurs failed to make a single signing over the summer – there is no indication whether they will move for new recruits in the January transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino will still be eager to recruit cover for Harry Kane with Fernando Llorente struggling to provide an adequate level of competition for Tottenham’s talisman.

But Simeone is surely more likely to move to Atletico to join up with his father, unless he has ambitions to play in the Premier League.
