Tottenham could make a move for Porto midfielder Hector Herrera in the January transfer window, according to reports in Italy.
Spurs failed to make a single signing over the summer despite the need for a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract.
Dembele will be allowed to speak to foreign clubs in January, meaning Tottenham may decide to approach a replacement when the window re-opens.
And according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Herrera in on Spurs’ shortlist – although the Londoners face competition from Roma.
Herrera was a key part of Porto’s title-winning side last side and has made 70 appearances for the Mexico national team.
At 28, he is only three years younger than Dembele but would still be a suitable replacement, adding experience to complement the youthful energy of Harry Winks in Tottenham’s midfield.
Spurs have also been linked with Ajax youngster Frenkie De Jong, who reports claim is a January target for Barcelona.
Whether Tottenham are keen to do business midway through the season or wait until next summer remains to be seen.
Total nonsense – Not a fit at Spurs.
