Tottenham had an offer for Lyon star Tanguy Ndombele turned down turned down over the summer but remain interested in the midfielder, according to reports in France.
Spurs failed to make a single signing during the summer transfer window despite being heavily linked with a move for Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.
There were murmurings of moves for other players here and there, but no deals materialised.
However, French outlet Telefoot claims it wasn’t for the want of trying on Tottenham’s part as the Londoners had a bid for Ndombele turned down by Lyon.
The midfielder has been mooted as a potential replacement for Mousa Dembele, and his performance against Manchester City in the Champions League earlier this month suggested he is ready for Premier League football.
Telefoot believes Spurs remain interested in the 21-year-old but could face competition from Manchester United, Arsenal and Roma for his signature.
Tottenham are unlikely to make a move for Ndombele until next summer, and a deal could depend on whether they qualify for the Champions League again this season.
