Mauricio Pochettino has hinted Georges-Kevin N’Koudou doesn’t have a future at Tottenham, suggesting the winger could miss out on a place in the squad against Cardiff City despite an ongoing injury crisis.

Spurs will be without key attacking players Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli this weekend, which could potentially open up a spot on bench for N’Koudou – the Frenchman wasn’t in the 18 against Barcelona on Wednesday as he is not registered to play in Champions League group stages.

However, in his press conference on Friday, Pochettino’s answer wasn’t full of promise when he was asked about N’Koudou’s chances of playing a part against Cardiff.

“It’s not easy. He’s in the squad of 20 players for tomorrow, yes. I need to decide if he will be on the bench or not,” Pochettino said (via @BenPearceSpurs).

“Maybe for him it’s a struggle to take the opportunity for different reasons, maybe perhaps because I prefer to play with another player and not that he’s good or not good. But it’s because I decide to play with different players than him.”

N’Koudou is yet to play a single minute for Tottenham so far this season. He played just once across all competitions last term before joining Burnley on loan in the January transfer window. The 23-year-old was expected to depart over the summer but, like Fernando Llorente, a move away failed to materialise.

Even if he is in the squad this weekend, his inclusion is likely to be a last resort and I wouldn’t expect to see him introduced from the bench.
