Tottenham are interested in signing Beijing Guoan striker Cedric Bakambu, according to reports in France.

Bakambu scored 46 goals across three seasons with Villarreal before making the move to China earlier this year.

The 27-year-old has been a huge hit in Asia, scoring 19 goals in 23 appearances for Guoan.

And according to French outlet L’Est Republicain (via Sports Mole), Spurs are keen to bring Bakambu back to Europe.

The DR Congo international has previously played in France and Turkey with Sochaux and Bursaspor respectively.

There is no indication as to whether Bakambu would be interested in a return to Europe but Tottenham may be able to offer Champions League football, which might tempt him.

Spurs are in need of a new centre forward to provide cover and competition for Harry Kane.

Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente have both failed miserably in that regard – Llorente has bizarrely been linked with a move to Real Madrid this week.

The Londoners are more likely to move for a central midfielder in January because of Mousa Dembele’s contract situation.

A striker can probably wait until next summer.
