Barcelona are interested in signing Toby Alderweireld in January and Tottenham might be open to a deal, according to the Mirror.

Alderweireld is out of contract at the end of the season but Spurs have the option to trigger a one-year extension.

However, that would in turn trigger a £25 million release clause that clubs will be able to meet in the final two weeks of the next summer transfer window.

With that in mind, the only way Tottenham may be able to make more than £25 million on Alderweireld is by selling him in January.

And according to the Mirror, Barcelona are considering a move for the Belgian during the winter transfer window.

Manchester United are also said to remain keen on Alderweireld, and Spurs are conscious that the 29-year-old’s value is going down as his contract nears its end.

For me, Tottenham should be doing everything possible to tie Alderweireld down to a new deal.

But realistically, that might not be possible. Hopefully the club can hold on to him until the end of the current season.
