Tottenham want to sign Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure as a replacement for Victor Wanyama, according to the Mirror.
Wanyama has struggled with two separate knee injuries over the last two seasons and hasn’t been as effective as he was in his first campaign at Spurs.
Eric Dier is almost always preferred by Mauricio Pochettino in the holding midfield role now, and and a result Wanyama may end up being surplus to requirements.
With that in mind, the Mirror believes Tottenham are keen to replace the 27-year-old with Doucoure.
The Frenchman has been one of the standout midfielders in the Premier League in recent months and is apparently being tracked by the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Paris-Saint Germain.
But the Mirror claims Spurs could steal a march on those suitors by making a move for Doucoure in January.
The 25-year-old is said to be valued at around £35 million by the Hornets.
Tottenham failed to make a single singing over the summer, so it makes sense that they would attempt to recruit new players in the winter transfer window.
