Mousa Dembele has flown to Qatar to receive specialist treatment on his ankle, Tottenham have confirmed.
The midfielder limped off within five minutes of Spurs’ recent Premier League victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. The club later confirmed Dembele had suffered ankle ligament damage and will be sidelined until the new year.
On Monday, Tottenham confirmed via Twitter that the Belgian is in Qatar receiving “world class treatment” on his ankle. Whether that means he could return sooner than expected remains to be seen.

It’s a strange situation for Dembele, who is out of contract at the end of the season and has been heavily linked with a January exit, either to Italy or China. The 31-year-old had been expected to leave Spurs in the summer but a transfer failed to materialise.
If his lay-off ends up being extended, which has been known to happen, then his potential suitors may opt against making offers in the winter transfer window, meaning Dembele will be able to leave for nothing next summer.
It will be interesting to see what happens upon his return.
