Christian Eriksen says he hasn’t played many games recently because his body needed a rest.

The Tottenham playmaker suffered an abdomen injury in September, and despite returning sooner than expected he hasn’t been starting regularly.

Mauricio Pochettino has taken extra caution with all of Spurs’ World Cup stars, most of whom has suffered muscle injuries already this season.

Eriksen missed the last round of international fixtures because of his stomach problem but has been recalled to the Denmark squad for the current international break.

And ahead of his country’s meeting with Wales, the 26-year-old said he is finally feeling fresh again.

“I feel very good, very fresh. I haven’t played that many games so I think for my body it’s been good with a bit of a build-up going into every game,” Eriksen told Sky Sports.

“My body needed it, it said take a rest. It’s never fun to be injured, it’s always boring being on the side, you want to go back to help the team and to be able to play. I’m happy to be back.”

A number of Tottenham stars are set to play significant roles over the next 10 days or so, including the England contingent of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Harry Winks – Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier are injured.

Spurs face Chelsea in the first game after the international break, so Pochettino will be hoping his players don’t pick up any more injuries before then.
