Tottenham are interested in signing Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez, according to reports in Spain.
Gomez scored 17 goals last season and has brought that form into the new campaign, finding the net six times in 10 appearances so far this term.
According to Spanish outlet El Pais, Tottenham are “lurking” with a view to making a move for the 22-year-old, but could face competition from Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund.
While Spurs have plenty of options in the attacking midfield positions at present – thanks to Lucas Moura finding form and Erik Lamela playing the best football of his Tottenham career to date – the Londoners are still in need of a centre forward to provide cover and competition for Harry Kane.
Over the last three seasons, Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente have both failed to do that, and Mauricio Pochettino will surely be keen to add another striker to his squad either in January or next summer.
Whether Gomez is the ideal candidate is up for debate. The Uruguayan is young and tenacious, but Spurs way want to wait until the end of the season to see if he can keep up his current form on a consistent basis.
