Tottenham want to hijack Matteo Kovacic’s permanent move from Real Madrid to Chelsea, according to reports in Spain.
Kovacic joined Chelsea on loan from Real Madrid in the summer after being heavily linked with a move to to Spurs.
The Blues sold Thibaut Courtois to Madrid, which likely had an effect on Kovacic’s destination.
Having started well at Stamford Bridge, it is believed Chelsea are interested in making Kovacic’s stay permanent in January.
But according to Spanish outlet AS, Tottenham are considering a swoop for the Croatian midfielder.
Real Madrid are keen to sell Kovacic as they are said to be unimpressed with his behaviour during the summer when he was pushing for a move away from the Bernabeu.
The 24-year-old would be wise to wait until the end of the campaign when he will know which of his suitors will be playing in the Champions League next season.
However, Kovacic may be eager to sort out his long-term future as soon as possible so he doesn’t upset Madrid further.
