Mauricio Pochettino has said it is “normal” for Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to be concerned over the Argentinian’s future amid more rumoured interest from Real Madrid.
After Tuesday’s impressive draw against Barcelona in the Champion League, fresh reports emerged linking Pochettino with a move to the Spanish capital.
The Spurs boss was heavily linked with Madrid over the summer after Zinedine Zidane’s surprise resignation, but the La Liga giants have hired two managers since then: Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari.
Solari isn’t fairing much better than Lopetegui, who was sacked just weeks into the current season, and so it is believed Madrid could line up yet another new manager next summer.
Pochettino is thought to be high up on their shortlist, but the 46-year-old has said he doesn’t need to reassure Levy about his future.
“No, he doesn’t laugh [about the rumours]! I don’t get bored [by the reports] but he maybe is worried, is concerned about [them]. But it’s normal. It’s not nice for Daniel to hear all that, of course,” Pochettino said (via ESPN).
“Do I feel I need to reassure him? No, because in football there are many things that you don’t need to [say].
“It’s like when the sporting director or the president appears and they say, ‘No, no, the manager is going to [stay] here, we trust in him.’ Then they lose the next game [and they’re] out. If you reassure something it’s because you’re thinking in a different [way]!”
Pochettino believes the links with Real Madrid only prove he is doing a good job at Tottenham – read more about those quotes here, and check out our predicted line-up for the Burnley game here.
