Son Heung-min has been called up to play for South Korea at the AFC Asian Cup, meaning he will miss more games for Tottenham in January.
The forward missed the beginning of the club season because he was with South Korea at the Asian Games, where he won a gold medal and earned exemption from mandatory military service.
As part of an agreement with Spurs, he will join up with his country again next month for another competition.
However, Tottenham have ensured he will miss the opening stages of the international competition, meaning he won’t leave north London until after the Manchester United game on January 13th.
As relayed by Spurs journalist Dan Kilpatrick, Son is likely to miss the second leg of the League Cup semi-final against Chelsea, the fourth round of the FA Cup (if Tottenham are in it) and Premier League matches against Fulham, Watford and Newcastle.
It certainly could have been worse, but it’s a shame Son won’t play against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge – he has been instrumental in the EFL Cup so far this season.
