Barcelona have confirmed the loan signing of former Tottenham midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Boateng made only 24 appearances for Spurs between 2007 and 2009. He has enjoyed a strange career since then, playing for the likes of Portsmouth and AC Milan.

He has now surprisingly joined Barcelona on loan from Serie A club Sassuolo. The Catalan giants announced the news on Monday.

The deal is reminiscent of the Barcelona’s shock signing of another ex-Tottenham midfielder, Paulinho, in the summer of 2017.

Paulinho was a complete flop for Spurs and was eventually sold to Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande, only to then seal a bizarre move to the Nou Camp.

He is now back with Guangzhou Evergrande as things didn’t quite work out at Barcelona.

Boateng’s loan is perhaps even more surprising given the fact he has never reached the levels of a player deemed worthy of a place at a club like Barcelona.

The former Ghana international enjoyed the best spell of his career at Milan, for whom he once scored against Barcelona in the Champions League.

But it’s safe to say Tottenham fans never saw this coming when Boateng was sold to Portsmouth in 2009.
