Tottenham have entered the race to sign Bolton Wanderers starlet Luca Connell, according to the Daily Mail.

The 17-year-old midfielder, who is out of contract at the end of the season, made his first senior start for Bolton against Bristol City in the FA Cup last week.

His performance earned him a first Championship start in Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Reading. Connell played for 72 minutes before he was substituted.

Before the game, the Mail claimed Spurs were set to send scouts to the University of Bolton Stadium, with Connell believed to be the subject of their interest.

The report goes on to say Tottenham are ready to battle the likes of Southampton, Burnley and Brighton for the teenager’s signature.

It’s perhaps a concern that the other clubs towards the top of the Premier League aren’t mentioned as suitors.

That said, sometimes young players in the Football League can go under the radar of the country’s top clubs and end up in middling top-flight teams, only for their value to sky-rocket.

It’s likely Spurs will wait until Connell is a free agent before attempting to snap him up, if their interest is genuine.
