Tottenham starlet Kazaiah Sterling has joined Sunderland on loan for the rest of the season, it has been confirmed.

Sterling is a product of the Spurs youth academy and has made one first-team appearance this season, coming on for the final 10 minutes of last week’s FA Cup defeat at Crystal Palace.

With Harry Kane and Son Heung-min out of action lately, Sterling has been included on the bench a few times in recent weeks to provide back-up for Fernando Llorente, who has led the line for Tottenham in the absence of Kane.

But Llorente’s goalscoring form and Son’s return from the Asian Game has effectively made Sterling surplus to requirements for the remainder of the season, allowing him to leave Spurs for first-team football elsewhere.

Sunderland have just sold star striker Josh Maja to Bordeaux, so Sterling will likely replace him in the starting line-up immediately and get some valuable experience at the Stadium of Light.
