Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in Real Sociedad defender Diego Llorente, according to reports in Spain.

Llorente has made 12 La Liga appearances at centre-back so far this season for Sociedad, who he joined from Real Madrid in the summer of 2017.

Spurs were linked with the 25-year-old last year but apparently didn’t make a move for him in the end.

However, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), Tottenham still hold an interest in Llorente.

It is believed the Spain international has a €50 million release clause in his contract, although Real Madrid have an option to buy him back for half that price.

Spurs could be in need of a new centre-back this summer if Toby Alderweireld leaves as expected.

Last month, Alderweireld extended his contract by a year to the summer of 2020, but doing so activated a £25 million release clause that can be triggered in the next transfer window.

The Belgian is expected to depart, which will leave Tottenham with Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth as the club’s only senior centre-backs.

They are all good players, but a fourth option would add strength in depth to the squad.
