Reported Tottenham target James Maddison could be available for £44 million this summer, according to the Times.

On Wednesday, we relayed a story from the Mirror claiming Spurs have identified Maddison as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen, who continues to stall on a new contract.

Eriksen’s contract expires at the end of next season and he has been heavily linked with Real Madrid in recent weeks, although Spanish reports suggest the European champions have ended their pursuit.

The Times is now also reporting Tottenham hold an interest in Maddison, who they say could cost £44 million this summer, around double the fee Leicester paid Norwich to sign the attacking midfielder last year.

Maddison was linked with Spurs before he left Norwich for Leicester but a deal failed to materialise. He has impressed for the Foxes, scoring five goals and providing four assists in 22 Premier League appearances so far this season.

Eriksen is on another level to Maddison as things stand, but at 22, Maddison has plenty of time to develop into a top-class player.

Tottenham fans will be hoping the club can keep hold of Eriksen and sign an able deputy like Maddison.

  1. give him the wages he deserves . to important to lose such a classy + important player ,same as toby alderweireld where are you going to find players of such class . without having to pay a fortune and then theres no guarentee that the replacement will work out . so pay up levy we need these two players.

  2. I’d happily swap Eriksen for Maddison. Have lost count of how many times Eriksen has failed to beat the first defender from a dead ball. He’s a decent player, but saves his best for Denmark and has been non-committal on his contract for too long. Don’t think we’d miss him if we got JM, Brooks or Cook in instead as Poch will develop them

  3. Lewes Cook is the best English midfielder. It is a shame he is out injured for 9 months.

Would be a result to get him in the summer.

  4. Madders is on a 5 year deal…no release clause.
The lad is a midlander and can live at home with hs family…no wish to move!
His value to us is immense.
Would spurs pay the £150m it would take for us to agree a deal?

  5. Never mind this cock and bull theory- ENIC, give the entire squad ( including Poch)a 50% pay hike! That’ll keep Eriksen, Alderweireld & Co, and will send a message to prospective incomers that THFC are prepared to pay the going rate. Then see us win trophies
