Former Tottenham midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has admitted he did too much “partying” and “ate badly” during his time at the club.
Boateng played for Spurs between 2007-2009, making 24 appearances across all competitions, but he struggled to cement a place in the team.
Since then the midfielder has played for a number of clubs across Europe, most recently making a surprise loan move to Barcelona from Italian side Sassuolo.
In a recent interview, the Ghana international opened up about his spell at Tottenham, revealing he didn’t look after himself physically in London.
“Now I weigh 83 kilos,” Boateng told La Vanguardia (via FourFourTwo).
“That was down to parties. At Tottenham I didn’t play and I was always with the fans in the stands. In London I was 20 years old. And you go partying, you’re with friends and you eat badly.
“Now I have my cook and I am aware that eating well and being healthy lengthens the career.
“When you’re young you think that every month the money is going to be there. If you don’t play you don’t care because you have money and ‘friends’ tell you that you are a phenomenon.”
Boateng enjoyed the best spell of his career at AC Milan, where he scored 17 goals in 100 appearances before moving to Schalke – he later returned to Milan.
It will be interesting to see how the 31-year-old gets on at Barcelona. He has so far made just one Copa del Rey appearances for the La Liga giants.
The move has shades of a similar deal involving another Spurs flop, Paulinho, who played for Barcelona last year before returning to China, where he was originally sold to by Tottenham.
