Tottenham Hotspur have signed youth midfielder Ferdinand Okoh following his release by West Ham United, according to All Nigeria Soccer.

The website’s story includes a photo of a player believed to be Okoh signing a contract in Spurs training gear next to a wall decorated by the club’s famous golden cockerel.

Okoh is a 15-year-old central midfielder who was let go by West Ham a year ago.

All Nigeria Soccer reports the teenager has signed a deal that will run until Under-16 level, at which point Tottenham will decide whether to tie Okoh and other players his age down to professional contracts.

Whether the fact West Ham let Okoh go is at all an indicator of his quality remains to be seen.

We are unlikely to see the youngster in the first-team picture any time soon regardless of whether he eventually signs a professional deal with the club.

Oliver Skipp, 18, is the latest academy player to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans. Okoh will be hoping to follow in Skipp’s footsteps in the future.
