Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Lyon star Tanguy Ndombele, according to the Express.
However, it is believed Manchester City lead the race to sign the midfielder, who is also wanted by Manchester United.
Spurs have been linked with Ndombele in the past. The 22-year-old has been mooted as a potential long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele.
Dembele left for the Chinese Super League in January and Tottenham are yet to replace him, so a new central midfielder is likely to arrive this summer.
Ndombele has provided five assists in 24 Ligue games so far this season, building on an impressive campaign last term.
The issue for Spurs is that Manchester City are said to be in pole position to sign the France international.
Tottenham can’t really compete with the champions financially. Ndombele is apparently rated at around £50m, an asking price City should have no problem meeting.
Mauricio Pochettino will probably be forced to look at more affordable options, especially if Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League.
The Londoners are now just three points above fifth-placed Manchester United in the table.
Have not seen him play yet, I hope he’s good enough for us to make him our first signing
