Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes this summer, according to the Sun.

Gomes is currently on a season-long loan at Everton, for whom he has made 25 appearances across all competitions this term.

The Portugal international was linked with Spurs before he agreed to join Everton, and the Londoners are said to be keen on reviving their interest in the player.

The Sun claims Tottenham have been impressed with Gomes’ displays for the Toffees. The 25-year-old apparently could be tempted to join Mauricio Pochettino side by the prospect of Champions League football.

Spurs are currently third in the Premier League but are at risk of slipping out of the Champions League places if their current poor form continues.

Even Europa League football could be a draw for Gomes, though, with Everton unlikely to qualify for any European competition.

Tottenham are likely to sign a new central midfielder this summer having lost Mousa Dembele in January. Victor Wanyama is also said to be on his way out, so Pochettino will almost certainly require added depth.

  1. This story is sounding so familiar. A case of Pavlov’s dog? His agent rings the bell and the media start salivating. Not exactly impressed at Barca or Everton.
