Juventus continue to monitor the situation of Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld, according to reports in Italy.

The Italian giants have been linked with Alderweireld several times over the last few months.

Spurs face a nervous summer because of Alderweireld’s £25 million release clause. In reality, they will be hoping a foreign club comes in for the Belgian instead of one of their Premier League rivals.

And according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Juventus have identified Aldeweireld as a potential solution to their ageing defence.

The centre-back turned 30 last month but is still younger than many of Juventus’ defenders, and his relatively low price makes him an enticing possibility.

Many Tottenham fans are still clinging to the faint hope Alderweireld will agree a new contract with the club, but it seems unlikely.

If that was going to happen, terms would surely have been agreed by now. Unfortunately it feels like only a matter of time until Alderweireld’s first suitor triggers his release clause.

Spurs will now be looking at possible replacements ahead of what could be an intriguing summer transfer window.
