Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes, according to the Mirror.

Fernandes, who is extremely highly rated in Portugal, has been heavily linked with Manchester United and Liverpool in recent weeks.

But the Mirror claims Spurs have now moved ahead of their Premier League rivals in the queue to sign the 20-year-old.

In 46 appearances across all competitions this season, Fernandes has scored three goals and provided six assists from central midfield.

And it is believed Tottenham’s progression to the Champions League final could help in luring the youngster to north London.

Already a full Portugal international, Fernandes has emerged as one of the most talented young players in Europe this term.

Spurs are in desperate need of reinforcements in central midfield following the departure of Mousa Dembele in the January transfer window.

Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama have struggled with form and fitness issues this season, while Harry Winks recently underwent groin surgery.

With that in mind, Fernandes would be a very useful addition to the squad for the 2019/20 campaign.
