Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a £40 million move for Roma starlet Nicolo Zaniolo, according to the Mirror.

Earlier this week, we relayed reports suggesting Spurs attended Roma’s 2-0 Serie A victory over Juventus specifically to watch Zaniolo.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder has scored four goals and provided two assists in 26 league matches this season.

And now the Mirror claims Tottenham are lining up a £40 million bid for Zaniolo ahead of what could be a busy summer.

It is believed the teenager is also being tracked by Real Madrid, Juventus and Bayern Munich, so Spurs face competition for his signature from some of Europe’s biggest hitters.

But Mauricio Pochttino’s track record with developing young players could convince Zaniolo to move to north London ahead of those clubs.

Roma apparently expect to receive plenty of offers for Zaniolo this summer and they will hope for a bidding war in order to drive up his price if they are willing to sell him.

Tottenham may have to replace Christian Eriksen if the Dane departs, and a youngster whose value has the potential to increase over the years is Daniel Levy’s kind of signing.
