Tottenham Hotspur are preparing an offer for Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, according to reports in Spain.
Asensio has scored six goals and provided seven assists in 44 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring just once in the entire 2018/19 La Liga campaign.
However, he remains highly rated and it is believed Spurs are interested in signing him this summer.
Spanish outlet El Confidencial claims Tottenham have been told by Real Madrid that Asensio is not for sale.
But despite Real’s message, Spurs are apparently readying a bit of at least €100 million for the 23-year-old attacking midfielder.
The Londoners have also been linked with Gareth Bale, with the Welshman’s future in the Spanish capital a continuing source of speculation.
Asensio would be a younger, less injury-prone alternative to Bale, but his price tag makes a deal unrealistic regardless of El Confidencial’s report.
Tottenham’s alleged interest in Asensio is very much just a rumour for now, and we’d be surprised to see the ordeal go any further than a failed enquiry.
