West Ham have lodged an £18 million bid for Barcelona midfielder and reported Tottenham Hotspur target Andre Gomes, according to the Times.

Gomes spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Everton and impressed by making 27 Premier League appearances.

The Portugal international had been linked with Spurs before joining Everton, and the Times suggests Mauricio Pochettino wants to add Gomes to his squad as one of two new technically gifted central midfielders.

The other player Pochettino wants is apparently Giovani Lo Celso, whose name has been doing the rounds as a Tottenham target in the Spanish press of late.

However, the Times claims West Ham have started the bidding for Gomes, putting in an offer of £18 million for the 25-year-old.

It is believed Everton do not have an option to sign their loan star ahead of any other club, meaning the likes of West Ham and Spurs have just as big a chance of getting a deal done.

There is no indication as to whether Barcelona will be willing to accept such a lower offer, but Tottenham will certainly be pleased if they can capture Gomes for less than £20 million.
