Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes as an alternative to Giovani Lo Celso, according to reports in Portugal.

Earlier this week, we relayed reports suggesting Spurs are in talks with Real Betis to sign Lo Celso and the player is keen on a move.

However, there has been some debate over whether Tottenham are willing to meet Betis’ asking price for the Argentinian, which could get near to his £88 million release clause.

With that in mind, Spurs are said to be looking at alternatives, and Portuguese outlet A Bola claims Fernandes is of interest to the Londoners.

Fernandes scored 32 goals and provided 18 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions this season – extraordinary numbers for at attacking midfielder.

It is believed Mauricio Pochettino is keen on the 24-year-old but Tottenham could face competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool.

A stumbling block could be Fernandes’ price, with Manchester United apparently willing to pay between £62 million and £70 million for the Portugal international, who also has a £88  million release clause in his contract.

If Spurs aren’t willing to pay that amount for Lo Celso, it’s surely unlikely they will go for Fernandes instead.

  1. We’re on the list of the 10 richest clubs in the world, haven’t spent a penny on transfers in almost 2 years and have just reached a CL final. All of that means we must have a nice few quid to spend this summer. I know the obvious comeback here is the stadium cost but that is shuttered off and taken care of in long term loans. Levy has to finally open his wallet and give the manager, players and fans what hey deserve….top notch signings!!!
We’ve done the impossible over the last few seasons, keeping pace with teams that spend every summer. I can honestly see an exodus soon if he continues the way he is.

  2. It’s all very well making bids for players, but you have to agree personal terms also… and we are a million miles away on that front
