Manchester United are considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier, according to the Times.
Dier was linked with United in the summer of 2017 with former manager Jose Mourinho said to be a fan of the England international.
Since then Dier has struggled for club and country, losing his place in Mauricio Pochettino’s preferred startling line-up at Spurs and struggling for minutes in an England shirt.
But the Times claims Manchester United could revive their interest in the 25-year-old this summer.
The newspaper’s report suggests Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to strengthen in midfield with a new holding player, and Dier is on a list of possible targets alongside his England teammate Declan Rice of West Ham United.
Given Dier’s recent form and injury issues, news of United’s interest certainly comes as a surprise.
The former Sporting Lisbon player could remain useful to Pochettino next term because of his ability to play in midfield or at centre-back.
But if Solskjaer can offer Dier more regular football in his preferred position, it’s impossible to rule out the chance of him jumping ship.
Sell him, if Utd in with a decent offer then I’d say sell. He’s not been as good lately and he’s not classed as homegrown so no major benefits really.
Declan Rice would be a gr8 alternative but West ham would be very reluctant to sell to us. Alternatively signing Ndombele, Lo Celso and Sander Berge would be gr8
