Celta Vigo striker and reported West Ham United target Maxi Gomez is waiting to see if Tottenham are interested in signing him, according to the Mirror.

Gomez has been linked with Spurs in the past but West Ham are the English club his name has been mentioned alongside the most so far this summer.

However, the Mirror claims Gomez is holding out on a move to the Hammers to see if Tottenham want him instead.

The report suggests Mauricio Pochettino is targeting a new back-up centre forward for Harry Kane in the current transfer window.

Fernando Llorente’s contract is set to expire and the Spaniard is believed to have left the club, although Spurs have made no official announcement.

Gomez scored 13 goals in La Liga last season and would be an upgrade on Llorente.

That said, the Uruguay international may not be content to spend as much time on the bench as Llorente did last season.

Llorente only really got a run in the team when Harry Kane injured his ankle.

For that reason, Gomez may favour a move to West Ham.
