Juan Foyth postponed his own honeymoon to attend Tottenham’s pre-season tour of the Far East earlier this month.

And now the Argentine international, who has barely had a rest since representing his country at the Copa America earlier this month, has joined his teammates in Germany for the Audi Cup in Munich.

With Kyle Walker-Peters failing to catch the eye in Asia, and Serge Aurier still out with a freak hand injury, Foyth was handed another opportunity to impress as he started Spurs’ pre-season match against Real Madrid this evening.

Foyth was up against a familiar face in Eden Hazard, but by no means disgraced himself in the opening 45 minutes against the Madrid winger. He was one of nine Tottenham changes at the break, but kept the Belgian rather quiet, making one vital challenge in the corner against him, whilst display his wonderful passing range in an impressive showing.

The 21-year-old defender is far from the finished article, but with Spurs looking more unlikely by the day to replace the departed Kieran Trippier, Foyth is becoming the most likely option at right-back this season.

However, after his red card against Bournemouth back in May, Foyth definitely won’t be starting Tottenham’s opening two Premier League against Aston Villa and Manchester City as he will serve a two-match suspension.

  1. You are a bit to late on this one since he has been talked about since the end of last season and reports has suggested no new rb will be bought.

  2. He is the best passer in the backfield kool under pressure and always position himself well his speed is very deceptive too he doesn’t look as fast as he is

  3. What it boils down to is if the manager thinks he’s the best man for the job. Not you or anyone else has a say in the matter. The guy is a born defender, tall and strong with pace. He’s also an excellent footballer who has youth on his side with a good teacher guiding him. Need I say more?

  4. We won’t finish in the top 4 this season. Our transfer campaign aside from Ndombele has been a joke. We needed 7 new players and we got 1.
Lloris needed replacing; as did trippier , rose, Lamela, dier, wanyama and llorente – that’s before we talk about erickson. We are a joke . Enic are killing this club. Foyth at right back: dear god.

    • What on earth are you talking about! Fed up of pathetic negative fans! 7 players!! How did that turn out last time we did it ey? Loris is still one of the best keepers in Europe! If you think we’re a joke and you’re writing us off already I’d happily see you go support somebody else

    • Support someone else? Why? Because I refuse to accept a lack of investment in the playing staff in order to fund the Enic arena and line their profits…!?
Lloris – just no. He is not a captain and he’s unreliable. The other 6 are no brainers: Dier is a mid table player. Wanyama as much as I like him, is not going to stay fit. Lamela…well, 15 goals for Roma in a season was 6 years ago. Rose’s head has gone. Llorente…
We fluked it to the champions league final. Out form from January onwards was atrocious- just look at it!!!!! Why? Well because the squad was thread bare and lacking in quality. Ndombele replaces Dembele. Transfer Campaign mark = 2/10

  5. Lot of players coming through that could make the step up, Parrot, Skipp and Tanganga prime examples. In Poch we trust, COYS!

  6. 7 new players ?????
    Really.
How many teams in history have changed 7 players at once ?
Plus we shouldn’t sell Rose or Eriksen
    Ok wanyama
Also, if a young player makes mistakes we cannot crucify them or say their not good enough ..
Foyth for instance will do a decent job at right back.
Obviously you never saw any of the copa America where he was excellent at right back.
Yes ,he may make a few mistakes, but he will improve ..
    In Poch we trust..
    COYS

    • Decent does not win you trophies. Plenty of teams change lots of players in a market. Juventus alone have bout 6 players this summer and they are still looking at players. We need a director of football

  7. Absolutely,
    For just 5 years,
Poch had done a very great job for this team,
Ndombele was a perfect signing, his dribbling, passes, shot are excellent..
Trust this very young defender, foyth is going to perform excellently in the right back,
    My preferable new signing are,
    Ryan sess of fulham,
    Neres of ajax,
    Dybala of juventus…
    With these players,
Tottenham is going to win major trophies..
    Up spurs!!!
    To dare is to do

  8. Fourth imo is not a right back i watched him again at West ham and was about 10 yards too deep the whole game (attacking sense). He will be a class CB in years to come and personally i would say a sweeper would be his best position. Rose should be sold I’ve been saying it for years as a defender he is championship quality. We need another striker a left back who is good at going both ways and a midfielder if Erickson goes. A load of transfers would upset the apple cart but a little refresh could give us that extra push.

  9. Director of football, last time we had one we wasted 100million of the bale money buying bang average players, except Cristian, More worrying is potch publicly saying he’s not a manager and he’s only a coach, but I do feel we will get one maybe two players before window closes
