Tottenham are preparing an offer for Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho, but have competition from a host of other top-six Premier League sides.

Coutinho, who helped Brazil win their 9th Copa America title earlier this summer, is free to leave the La Liga giants after failing to live up to expectations since making the move to the Nou Camp from Liverpool for £142 million back in 2018 and has been pushed further down the pecking order this summer after the signing of Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.

And Spurs, who look set to lose playmaker Christian Eriksen before the window closes, are one of four English clubs – Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United the other three – interested in bringing Coutinho back to the Premier League, according to Talk Sport.

However, reliable French journalist, Julien Laurens, confirmed that the Gunners won’t be signing the 27-year-old, with a centre-back continuing to be the priority for Unai Emery, whilst a move to Liverpool’s bitter rivals United looking extremely unlikely.

Coutinho enjoyed a successful loan spell at Espanyol back in 2012 under Mauricio Pochettino, scoring five goals in 16 matches and if Spurs can get a deal over the line, it would ensure an unexpected reunion between the two South American’s.

  1. Yeah right.
Barca want Barca want to recoup most of the £145 million they shelled out.
    Levy would have a coronary.
We could buy the three we’re linked with for that.

  2. Levy is on his-way back from Miami to put a stop to this and all the other rumours about spurs in for more players
He has done his business for the next 3 Windows now!!!

  3. So Poch has supposedly phoned coutinho about coming to spurs? Is this the same Poch who doesn’t have anything to do with transfers.

  4. Let him rot on the bench, they have enough time to loan him out elsewhere. $142m insane, another bonehead move as PSG and Madrid shelling out the dough and want to fleece the rest to recoup. Why dont dont they sell malcolm Spurs for 35M. This sounds like another journalist wet dreams to me.

    • The offer is for a loan move apparently so there would be no 142mil fee, the price wouldn’t even be that much if there was an offer to buy as that’s what Barca paid for him so I think it’s a no brainier, get him in, proven premier league quality

  5. Coutinho is quality! Proven quality! He was poorly coached at Barcelona and of course, there was always the shadow of Messi! Bring him back to Anfield and we win the league!

  6. I not on my high horse just yet all these rumours going around when I see them holding a spurs shirt at the stadium or training ground then and only then will I shout for joy
