Tottenham’s 2019/20 Premier League campaign officially gets underway against Aston Villa at the new stadium on Saturday, and Mauricio Pochettino has a number of decisions to make regarding his team selection.

Hugo Lloris will start between the sticks, but there is a few contentious issues in defence. We think Danny Rose will start despite questions marks over his future, but contract rebel Toby Alderweireld could begin the game on the bench as he did against Inter Milan in last weekend’s final pre-season friendly.

That means Davinson Sanchez will partner Jan Vertonghen at centre-back, with Kyle Walker-Peters starting at right-back because Juan Foyth is injured and Serge Aurier didn’t feature in pre-season.

In midfield, we think Pochettino will start with a trio of Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks and record signing Tanguy Ndombele. Giovani Lo Celso only arrived on Thursday so might not even be on the bench, while Christian Eriksen’s situation is similar to that of Alderweireld – the Dane could be among the substitutes as transfer speculation continues to circulate.

In attack, Son Heung-min is suspended and Dele Alli is injured, so Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura should support Harry Kane.
