Tottenham came from behind to beat Aston Villa 3-1 in the Premier League curtain raiser on Saturday.
John McGinn’s early opener gave Villa an unlikely lead but Spurs rallied in the second half, with Tanguy Ndombele bagging the equaliser before a typical Harry Kane brace.
Here’s how every Tottenham player rated.
Hugo Lloris, 6 – Couldn’t do anything about McGinn’s goal. Had little else to do.
Kyle Walker-Peters, 7 – Often the best attacking player. Always provided an outlet.
Toby Alderweireld, 7 – As composed as ever at the back with some crucial interceptions.
Davinson Sanchez, 6 – Caught out for the Villa goal but grew into the game.
Danny Rose, 6 – Perhaps got the goal wrong but another who gradually improved.
Harry Winks, 6 – Spread the ball about nicely before taking a knock. Substituted for Christian Eriksen.
Tanguy Ndombele, 7 – A little rusty but his brilliant equaliser was the catalyst.
Moussa Sissoko, 5 – Worked hard but his final ball was dreadful until his assist for the third goal.
Erik Lamela, 7 – For all of his flaws, he is the perfect squad player. Relentless in his pressing, making the second goal.
Lucas Moura, 6 – Nippy early on but his influence waned. His shooting was a little off.
Harry Kane, 8 – Quiet for the most part but exploded into life to score the vital goals.
Substitutes
Christian Eriksen, 7 – His presence changed the game even if his shooting was inaccurate.
Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, N/A – A late arrival.
Oliver Skipp, N/A – Don’t think he touched the ball.

Winks “spread the ball about nicely”? Read for that “sideways, backwards and add lowly”. He’s not the only one, but it’s no coincidence we started scoring once
Eriksen came on and moved the ball forward – and quickly. (And I’m not starstruck with the Dane).
If KWP was our “best attacking player”, rated 7, where was his end product? A few corners is all… crosses non-existent. Whereas Rose gets a 6 for the doing the opposite.
And noticeable that Lamela took no more pointless short corners after half-time -Poch may just have had a say in that!
“add lowly” = slowly!
You give Erikssen 7. not sure what game u were watching. Although going 2 wide by switching to a 433 change the game, there was no one on the pitch of creativity until Erikssen came on. I will continue to say this, we are not a pressing team like 4 yrs ago, the league figure that out. We play better with 433 or 4213. Not sure what the manager was thinking leaving Erikssen on the bench. He is the only creative player we have until Lo Celso who I am not sold on his ability to do what Erikssen is doing. If it is Erikssen ‘a desire to leave then sell him and Tottenham fans who posting “get him outta here” will regret those comments, but if if is about personal terms, pay him now and extend his contract and sell him in the next window.
